PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for the production of a biodegradable lactic acid copolymer having a sufficiently high mol.wt. and excellent impact resistance, clarity, and softness by controlling the segment sizes of various polymers. ;SOLUTION: A lactide and a polyurethane are subjected to ring-opening polymn. and transesterification and/or ester-amide interchange in the presence of at least one ring-opening polymn. catalyst and at least one transesterification and/or ester-amide interchange catalyst for a carbamic ester.
