Vectors encoding LAP (transcriptor activator) and LIP activity expressed from the C/EBP beta gene

A recombinant vector encoding LAP (transcriptional activator) activity comprises a nucleotide sequence for part or all of the CCAAT/enhancer binding protein beta (C/EBPbeta) gene, wherein said part or all of the C/EBPbeta gene comprises a nucleotide sequence around the initiation codon, ATG, of the LIP transcription inhibitor protein, and wherein the nucleotide sequence comprises a mutation around the initiation codon, ATG, of the LIP transcription inhibitor protein, wherein the mutation is a substitution of ATG with a codon encoding another amino acid and the substituted codon is not TTG. The vector is useful for the treatment and/or amelioration of cancer. Also described are methods of modifying the ratio of the expression level of LAP to LIP in non-human or isolated cells using the vector.
