The fermentation process with selected strains of B. Trispora set forth in the present invention allows to reach lycopene production levels higher than those currently described. The methods of isolation, purification and formulation are applicable to any natural source of lycopene, especially submerged cultures of mucoral fungi of the genera Blakeslea, Choanephora, Phycomyces or Mucor. The extraction procedure allows a simplification in the recovery process and an increase in product purity with respect to the procedures described above. The formulation procedures provide a high added value, since they allow to obtain stabilized preparations of lycopene for direct application in the food and pharmaceutical fields.
