Interpolation data of a missing pixel is determined such that the average value of a plurality of pixels constituting a pixel set including a missing pixel becomes equal to the average value of a plurality of pixels constituting a pixel set not including a missing pixel. For example, the sum (SL) of values is determined (1) for pixels other than a missing pixel out of k pixels constituting a pixel set (LC) including the missing pixel (L), the sum (SA) of values of k pixels constituting a pixel set (NA) not including the missing pixel is determined (2), and then the difference is determined (3) thus obtaining interpolation data for missing. Interpolation error can be reduced when a high-periodicity image partially deficient in pixels is interpolated.
