The method involves acquiring image data from the surroundings and additionally determining the weather situation from the image data. Image data from one or more areas of an image are compared and/or images acquired at several different times are used to determine the weather situation. The comparison involves using a measure of the focus or contrast of the image. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: (a) an arrangement for improving visibility in vehicles.
