Research on Visibility Detection Method of Road Weather Visibility Meter

Based on the research of theoretical and experimental methods on visibility, this paper establishes an indoor and outdoor road weather detection environment in the test field of RIOH. A suitable standard device of a transmissometer was chosen and studied. A comparison test between the tested visibility meter and the transmissometer were done, and the detection method and process of road visibility meter were put forward for multi-level visibility condition detection. The conclusions are systematical and include detection device and condition, indoor and outdoor detection method, and measuring range detection method. They have been written into the national standard of "Road Weather Environment-Visibility Meter" (Plan No: GB 20100490-T-469). After the standard is issued, the detection method of a road visibility meter can be used effectively to regulate the market access of this device on engineering applications in ITS, provide technical support for equipment inspection agencies, and greatly improve road environment safety.
