PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for driving a plasma display panel are provided to improve the contrast ratio by reducing the emission of visible light during the initial write discharge. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for driving a plasma display panel includes a reset circuit, an address circuit and a sustain circuit(74). The reset circuit supplies the charge up rising ramp waveform after the first voltage is supplied to one of the first and the second electrodes during the reset period. The address circuit supplies the scan voltage to one of the first and the second electrodes during the address period and supplies the data voltage to the third electrode. And, the sustain circuit alternatively supplies the sustain voltage to the first and the second electrodes.
