PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for driving a plasma display panel using a selective erasing are provided to improve contrast ratio and luminescence by providing one of first and second electrodes with a rising ramp waveform and a DC(Direct Current) voltage lower than a set-up voltage of the rising ramp waveform. CONSTITUTION: A rising ramp waveform(Rup) and a DC voltage are provided to one of first and second electrodes to initialize a plurality of cells. A voltage of the rising ramp waveform(Rup) rises during a reset period. The DC voltage is lower than a set-up voltage of the rising ramp waveform. A scan voltage(Vscan) is provided to one of the first and second electrodes during an address period and a data voltage(Vd) is provided to a third electrode, thereby selecting the cells. A sustain voltage(Vs) is alternatively provided to the first and second electrodes.
