PURPOSE: A process is provided to produce a composite polymer electrolyte membrane coated with an inorganic thin film for a fuel cell, which reduces permeability of methanol without reducing ionic conductivity, therefore improves performance of the cell. CONSTITUTION: The composite polymer electrolyte membrane is produced by coating a polymer electrolyte membrane with an inorganic thin film by using a plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition(PECVD) or a reactive sputtering method, wherein the inorganic material of the inorganic thin film is at least one selected from the group consisting of silicon oxide(SiO2), titanium oxide(TiO2), zirconium oxide(ZrO2), zirconium phosphate(Zr(HPO4)2), zeolite, silicalite, and aluminum oxide(Al2O3).
