PURPOSE: A tilt detection device of a disk and a method thereof are provided to detect a tilt when a search command is received, after completing a lead-in operation without detecting the tilt during the lead-in operation, thereby reducing a lead-in time on a disk. CONSTITUTION: A pickup unit(102) records data on a disk(101), or reproduces data recorded on the disk(101). When a search command is received, a system controller(108) detects a tilt of the disk(101) in predetermined zone unit while moving the pickup unit(102). The system controller(108) detects the tilt after performing a lead-in operation for the disk(101). The system controller(108) detects the tilt in the predetermined zone unit once. The system controller(108) detects the tilt by using differences between focus driving signals for the pickup unit(102).
