PURPOSE: Provided is an electrolyte for a lithium secondary battery, which provides excellent battery safety, and prevents gas generation and battery swelling under high temperature storage conditions. CONSTITUTION: The electrolyte for a lithium secondary battery comprises: a non-aqueous organic solvent including a cyclic carbonate and gamma-butyrolactone; an ester compound having an electron-withdrawing group; and at least two salts. Preferably, the ester compound is a cyclic ester compound and is added in an amount of 0.1-25 wt% based on the total weight of the electrolyte. Particularly, the electron-withdrawing group is selected from the group consisting of a halogen, cyano and nitro groups. The salts include LiBF4.
