A brush unit (17) covering the web width is arranged in the wrapped region (11, 13) of the forming unit (8, 12) and/or the de-watering unit (10, 15) and at the sieve (4, 5) facing away from the corresponding unit (8, 10, 12, 15). It is fitted with a number of individual brushes (18) : The brushing unit (17) is moveable, especially in translation and/or rotation. The brush unit rotates on a shaft (21) and comprises packs of brushes. The brush has an outer diameter (D) of preferably 800-1000 mm. The length is preferably 100-250 mm. Various brush contours are feasible. The brush is combined with a drive unit (23) and controller (24). Brush circumferential velocity in the sieve running direction, is 0-125% of the sieve velocity, or against the sieve running direction, is 0-25% of the sieve velocity. A cleaning unit (25) is provided over the width of the brush. This is a sprayer, combined with an air blaster and/or a suction unit. An independent claim is also included for the method of making the paper web.
