The course of a road (S1) is expressed as a digital road map or generalized as a geographical map. Along the road, first (A) second (B) and third (C) points are indicated, for which associated locations are unknown. Transmitters used for other purposes (TUFOP) transmit signals. Multiple locations are determined in advance as to which signals from TUFOP can be received at these locations. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) A system for determining a motor vehicle's location; (B) A system for motor vehicle navigation; (C) A system to allow motor vehicles to detect toll roads; (D) A motor vehicle tachograph system.
