The pick-up extract a sheet during feeding onto a stack. It has bar-shaped carrier elements, which are moved into the movement path of the sheets above the stack. The carrier elements are positioned at a fixed distance relative to the stack surface (37). A spacer (41) mounted on each carrier engages on the surface after positioning, e.g. on a down-stream stack edge of a top sheet (9) and within a pressure-free area (42). Each carrier is pivoted and has a device to measure the distance (43) to the stack surface.
