The system has two spherical mirrors (31, 32) maintained in free space using a rigid belt (42) surrounding the system. Two plates are provided adjacent to the belt so that one forms an upper side and the other forms a lower side of the system to ensure tightness of the system. A light beam traverses a diffraction grating (40) between the mirrors, and a cylindrical surface (41) for correction of astigmatism is placed on the grating. An independent claim is also included for a method of assembling an optical system.
