Grafting fluorinated polymers with organic metal salts, giving improved adhesion to other materials, e.g. in production of liquid storage tanks, obtained by irradiating shaped mixture of polymer and salt
Grafting fluorinated polymers with organic metal salts, giving improved adhesion to other materials, e.g. in production of liquid storage tanks, obtained by irradiating shaped mixture of polymer and salt
A method for grafting an organic metal salt (I) onto a fluorinated polymer (A) involves: (a) mixing molten (A) with (I); (b) shaping the mixture to give films, plates, granules or powder; (c) irradiating with photon (gamma ) or electron (beta ) radiation in the absence of air at a dose of 0.5-15 (especially 0.5-3) Mrad; and (d) optionally removing at least part of (I) not grafted onto (A). Independent claims are included for: (1) structures comprising at least one layer of the (I)-grafted (A) product and at least one layer of other material (B); and (2) bulk-grafted fluorinated polymers (A').
