PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for improving meat quality of livestock and/or poultry comprising improving lipid metabolism of livestock and/or poultry to redistribute the lipid so as to reduce and control adhesion of visceral fat, and simultaneously increase intramuscular fat so as to improve the meat quality. PSOLUTION: The method for improving meat quality of livestock and/or poultry comprises administration of uridylic acid (uridine monophosphate) to the livestock and/or the poultry. For a calf within the limits of age at a wearing period including newborn, only feeding with synthetic milk mixed with the uridylic acid at 2 g a day reduces the adhesion of visceral fat to make the calf grow healthy and also enable production of veal having excellently marbled meat quality. The uridylic acid as an active ingredient comprises a natural component and is recognized as a food additive, and thereby its safety is also confirmed. PCOPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
