A battery powered fishing line bitedetector alarm (20) producing visible and/or audible alarmsignals is disclosed. An arm (96), installed within the alarm, integrally connects to a modified leaf on-off switch (66).The alarm attaches to a fishing rod (33) in front of a fishingreel (35) mounted on the rod. Fishing line (38) is threadedinto the arm and adjusted such that slack is provided betweenthe rear of the alarm and the front of the reel therebyallowing forward arm movement. The fishing line is furtherinserted until desired resistance of forward and backward linemovement within the arm is achieved. Applied tension to theline forces the arm to actuate. A tension spring clip (84)connected to a switch lever (78), and a common leaf contactarm (76), pulls contact arm closer to an upper common contactpoint (74) until contact is made activating the alarm signals.Increased tensioning pulls the (100b), releasing tension onthe arm and causing the contact arm and contact point to breakcontact, while allowing the arm to return to a self-adjustingalarm casing position.
