Each individual solar cell (10) is encapsulated in a transparent plastics housing (30). Each cell has a standardized front contact (40a) and a standardized rear contact (40b). Standardized positive and negative connector wires (50) protrude from the rear face of the housing and may be soldered into sockets (60) and conductor strips (70) on a circuit board (20) which supports the solar cells.
