Cast iron has a ferritic structure and contains spheroidal graphite. It has the following composition (wt%): carbon 2.5 - 3.5; silicon 2.5 - 4.5; Nickel up to 2.5; niobium 0.10 - 0.45; manganese up to 0.4; magnesium 0.01 - 0.10; cerium up to 0.004; and antimony 0.001 - 0.004, the remainder being iron and impurities. Cerium is added as a mischmetal containing yttrium and optionally other rare earth metals.
