The method involves reprogramming a functional knot of several knots in a communication network, during a programming operation, where the knots are provided simultaneously in the operation. A new data is transferred at this function knot using which the knot overwrites the data stored in its electrically erasable read only memory. The programming operation of the knot is then terminated. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a data carrier comprising a computer program for operating a programming device (B) a programming device with a memory for a computer program.
