PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for inducing prevention of proliferation/mitosis and/or death of cells of cancer cells, an inducer for preventing selective proliferation/mitosis and/or death of the cancer cells used in the method and a method for screening a therapeutic and/or preventive agent for the cancer. PSOLUTION: The prevention of proliferation/mitosis and/or death of the cancer cells is induced by suppressing expression of gene coding for the cancer-testis antigen protein D40 or CASC5 in the cancer cells or the splicing isoform protein of the cancer-testis antigen protein. The screening of a material for inducing the prevention of proliferation/mitosis and/or death of cells of the cancer cells or a therapeutic/preventive agent for the cancer is performed by using the splicing isoform protein of the cancer-testis antigen protein as a target.
