PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shape retaining device for an approximately U-shaped segment, which can maintain the shape and installation position of the approximately U-shaped segment having an opening on the upside of a recessed shape etc. , and a method for retaining the shape of the approximately U-shaped segment by using the shape retaining device.;SOLUTION: The shape retaining device 31 for the approximately U-shaped segment 13 comprises: a supporting frame 35, one end of which is connected to a vertical beam 33 installed in the tail section 5 of a shield machine 1, and the other end of which is protruded in the rear of the shield machine 1; a pair of right and left vertically telescopic means 37 which is mounted on the supporting frame 35, and which can be expanded/contracted in a vertical direction; and a reaction receiving trestle 38 which is mounted on the upper outer peripheral surface of the shield machine so as to overhang in the rear of the shield machine 1, and which serves as a reaction member in the expansion of the means 37.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
