PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reducing transmission quality deterioration caused by four wave mixing (FWM) which occurs within an optical fiber in an optical transmission apparatus for performing wavelength division multiplex (WDM) transmission and to provide a wavelength multiplex optical transmission system in which a wavelength multiplex density is not limited.;SOLUTION: For reducing the transmission quality deterioration caused by the FWM which occurs within the optical fiber in the WDM optical transmission apparatus, the intensity of FWM light which occurs on an optical fiber transmission line for each span is observed on a receiving side and the optical intensity of light output for transmitting the relevant span on a transmitting side is determined.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
