Novel crystalline forms of 4-4-4-(hydroxydiphenylmethyl)-1-piperindinyl-1-hydroxybutyl-alpha, alpha-dimethylbenzene acetic acid and its hydrochloride

Disclosed is crystalline form A of fexofenadine, 4-[4-[4-(hydroxydiphenylmethyl)-1-piperindinyl]-1-hydroxybutyl]-alpha,alpha-dimethylbenzene acetic acid having a melt endotherm with a peak temperature of 227-231 degrees Celsius and a process for its preparation. Further disclosed is an anhydrous crystalline Form X of fexofendaine hydrochloride 4-[4-[4-(hydroxydiphenylmethyl)-1-piperindinyl]-1-hydroxybutyl]-alpha,alpha-dimethylbenzene acetic acid having a melt endotherm with a peak temperature of 184-189 degrees Celsius and a process for the preparation thereof in which crystalline form A may be utilised.
