A product transit store has "gondolas", each having at least one shelf for supporting products, and which are suspended, equally spaced, from two parallel conveyor chains or belts (7); the chains are operated synchronously, and define an annular path (9) having a forward branch and a return branch, which in turn have up portions, down portions, and curved portions (27,28) connecting the up and down portions and defining top and bottom end points of the path; the lengths of the forward and return branches are variable by respective equal opposite amounts to vary the capacity of the store; and rocking of the "gondolas" is prevented by a retaining assembly (30) having movable members (33) which cooperate in contact with the "gondolas" (8) to accompany the movement of the "gondolas" (8) along at least part of the top and bottom end points.
