The present invention concerns a pump pro-vided with a control module and an attachable fluidreservoir cassette. The control module includes apumping mechanism for pumping fluid from thefluid reservoir to the patient. The cassette is pro-vided with appropriate indicia to identify differ-ences between a plurality of cassettes. The controlmodule further includes cassette indicia identifica-tion structure for identifying indicia on the cas-sette. One type of cassette identification systemincludes a projection extending from the cassetteand structure associated with the control modulewhich engages the projection. Another type of cas-sette identification system includes a light reflect-ing system which utilizes light from the controlmodule and reflected off the cassette. Still othertypes of cassette identification systems utilize othernon-contact switches or sensors to sense indicia onthe cassette to identify the cassette from a pluralityof cassettes.
