The invention relates to a method for operating a commercial cooking appliance, especially a convection steamer or forced-air oven. Said method comprises the following steps: a) a product that is to be cooked and is provided with an associated cooking program is selected, or at least one cooking parameter with associated products that are to be selected is selected; b) the cooking appliance is charged with a selected product; c) the associated cooking program is started; d) the name of the program and at least the remaining cooking time are displayed; e) additional products or cooking programs matching the cooking program of the first selected product are automatically associated in accordance with cooking parameters, particularly the cooking temperature and/or the cooking moisture and/or the fan speed; f) the product selection or the cooking program selection is displayed; g) another product that matches the first product according to the association is selected upon request; h) the cooking appliance is charged with the additional product; i) the associated cooking program is started; j) the name of the program and at least the remaining cooking time for the additional product are displayed; k) steps g) to j) are repeated if necessary; and l) the products are removed from the cooking appliance when the respective cooking time is up.
