A method of preparing polybutene having at least two carbon-carbon double bonds is provided to produce the polybutene useful for manufacturing water-in-oil emulsion explosive emulsifier with improved storage stability by adding 1,3-butadiene to a hydrocarbon material containing isobutene and having four carbon atoms, then polymerizing the mixture. The method includes mixing of polymeric material containing isobutene with 1,3-butadiene. The polymeric material is hydrocarbon polymeric material having 4 carbon atoms. More particularly, the polymeric material is selected from C4 residual oil containing more than 10wt.% of isobutene generated during decomposition of naphtha, hydrocarbon mixture having 4 carbon atoms and containing 10wt.% of isobutene generated during oil purification, and isobutene. Amount of 1,3-butadiene to be added is sufficient to have a molar ratio of 1,3-butadiene/isobutene ranging from 0.1 to 3.0. The polybutene obtained from the method has number average molecular weight(Mn) of 300 to 5000.
