A drum-type washing machine and a tub cleaning method thereof are provided to easily clean a tub by circulating washing water along the inner surface of the tub and to improve durability and using convenience by preventing excessive bubbles from being generated in cleaning the tub. A drum-type washing machine comprises a tub(110), a drum(106), a motor, and a control unit. The tub is installed in a cabinet to supply washing water inside. The drum is rotationally installed in the tub to receive the laundry inside. The motor rotates the drum. The control unit regulates rotation speed of the motor to supply washing water into the upper side of the inner surface of the tub to clean the inner surface of the tub, and detects generation of bubbles to prevent the motor from being overloaded. The control unit regulates rotation speed of the motor to circulate the washing water along the inner surface of the tub. An inputting unit is for inputting an order for cleaning the inner surface of the tub. The control unit regulates the rotation speed of the drum in a range over a speed set for washing or rinsing the laundry and under a speed set for dewatering the laundry.
