The damper has a cylinder filled with a damping medium, where a piston rod of a piston rod guidance is axial movably guided in the cylinder. The guidance with its mantle surface is sealed in the direction of a piston rod side operational space. The contact surface between the mantle surface and the cylinder has a groove (25) and axial channels (29) in the direction of the outer front surface of the vibration damper in relation to the space beyond the sealing position. The axial channels are implemented in a flat shape, and made of knurl profile.
