A substrate has a coating of metal at a surface. The substrate or a layer formed at the substrate is an electrically non-conducting layer. An intermediate layer is formed between the coating and the surface of the substrate or the electrically non-conducting layer. The intermediate layer is formed from a metal oxide or a sulfide. The metal oxide is selected from indium-tin-oxide, zinc oxide, zinc-aluminum oxide, titanium oxide. An independent claim is also included for the production of a substrate.
