The method involves controlling a lock mechanism (20) using a control unit (34) of a lock (40). A wireless communication is established between the control unit and the electronic lock. Existence of access and/or access authorization is determined, where the access is enabled or refused based on the existence of access and/or access authorization. Existence of access and/or access authorization for a key-lock combination is determined, where the access is accepted on the side of a key and/or lock with a largest signal level and/or changes in a largest level.
