The shelf has a sensor device, which is provided for monitoring an operation of a shelf compartment (2). A sensor, which is a range finder, is provided, where an effective direction of the sensor is oriented in an axial direction, in which two shelf compartments, which are displaced against each other are provided, and which provides range signals, which identify the operated shelf compartments. An electronic control is connected with the sensor for evaluating the signals provided by the sensor (6).
