PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a performance recovery method of a fuel cell system capable of recovering the voltage of a fuel cell stack in simple system constitution. PSOLUTION: Hydrogen gas is supplied from a hydrogen gas supply source contained in an outside unit for performance recovery to an oxidant electrode through first gas piping branched through a first outside port switching valve installed in an oxidant supply line, hydrogen gas passed through the oxidant electrode is introduced into one end of bypass piping contained in the outside unit through second gas piping branched through a second outside port switching valve installed in an oxidant exhaust line, hydrogen gas is supplied from the other end of the bypass piping to a fuel electrode through a third outside port switching valve installed in a fuel supply line, and after a prescribed time is elapsed, supply of hydrogen gas from the hydrogen gas supply source is stopped, after that, a fuel electrode side current collector and an oxidant electrode side current collector of the fuel cell stack are connected to an outside power source contained in the outside unit, and DC current is conducted to the fuel cell stack.
