PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an IC card system convenient to be used for a user and capable of improving the reliability of personal identification of an IC card owner. SOLUTION: A card R/W of a first store side terminal device 7 reads a card ID from a set IC card 1. The terminal device 7 transmits the card ID and a request to transmit a registered fingerprint data to a registration side host device 3. The registration side host device 3 retrieves the registered fingerprint data corresponding to the card ID from a center DB17 and transmits it to the terminal device 7. The registered fingerprint data is sent to the IC card 1 from the terminal device 7 through the card R/W. The IC card owner puts the finger on a specified position of the card R/W and then the fingerprint is measured. The fingerprint data obtained by the measurement is outputted to the IC card 1 from the card R/W. The measured fingerprint data is collated with the registered fingerprint data by fingerprint collation algorithm in the IC card 1. The collation result is outputted to the terminal device 7 through the card R/W. The terminal device 7 executes a process corresponding to the collation result.
