An apparatus and a method for channel estimation in an FUSC(Full Usage Of Subchannels) mode in an MIMO(Multi Input Multi Output) wireless communication system supporting OFDM/OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing/Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) are provided to estimate and compensate a time offset and/or a carrier wave frequency offset by using a pattern which is varied by transmission antenna and includes fixed pilots and variable pilots, thereby estimating the channel more accurately and improving the receiving performance of a terminal. An apparatus for channel estimation comprises an FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) unit(100), an offset estimation unit(200), an offset compensation unit(300), and a channel estimation unit(400). The offset estimation unit estimates at least one of a time offset and a frequency offset by using two or more pilots selected in fixed pilots and variable pilots included into at least one of receiving signals of a first channel and a second channel received through a first receiving antenna and receiving signals of a third channel and a fourth channel received through a second receiving antenna in plural receiving antennas. The offset compensation unit compensates at least one of the estimated time offset and carrier wave frequency offset. The channel estimation unit estimates the channel of each receiving signal by using pilots included into each receiving signal of which at least one of the time offset and the carrier wave frequency offset is compensated. The receiving signals of the first and third channels are signals transmitted from a first transmission antenna in plural transmission antennas. The receiving signals of the second and fourth channels are signals transmitted from a second transmission antenna.
