The method involves producing a single- or multi-layer substrate layer (14) from a thermoplastically processable polymer. A fiber layer (18) is partially laminated in an edge area of the substrate layer in such a manner that a portion of the fiber layer is laminated in the substrate layer and is fixedly connected in the edge area of the substrate layer, where a portion of the fiber layer overhanging the substrate layer is formed. The fiber layer has the length larger than 2 millimeter, and a transponder module (16) is embedded in the substrate layer. An independent claim is also included for a multilayer structure for an identification document.
