A synthetic high temperature lubricant (I) comprises: (A) a base oil mixture of trimellitate ester, polyol ester and complex ester bases; and (B) an additive package containing (a) specific corrosion inhibitor(s), e.g. succinimide hemiesters or alcohol- or phenol phosphate esters, (b) specific high pressure additive(s), e.g. organic phosphates, alkylated dithiocarbamates aor imidazolines, (c) antioxidant(s), (d) non-ferrous metal deactivator(s) and (e) wear reducing agent(s). A synthetic high temperature lubricant (I) for chains comprises: (A) a synthetic base oil mixture of trimellitate ester, polyol ester and complex ester bases; and (B) an additive package, containing (a) corrosion inhibitor(s) selected from dicarboxylate esters, optionally alkylated succinimide hemiesters, optionally alkylated or amine-neutralized succinimide derivatives, alcohol or phenol phosphate esters, organic phosphates, amine-neutralized mono-, di- or triesters of orthophosphoric acid, naphthenic acids, diamides, fatty acid amides, sulfonic acids, arylsulfonates, imidazoline derivatives, N-oleylsarcosine and/or dodecyl monosuccinimide ester; (b) high pressure additive(s) selected from alcohol or phenol phosphate esters, organic phosphates, alkyl- or arylphosphoric acid esters, mixed phosphoric esters, mono-, di- or triphosphoric acid esters, dithiophosphate esters, dialkyl dithiophosphates, optionally alkylated (specifically isopropylated or isobutylated) or sterically hindered triaryl phosphates, trioctyl-, tricresyl-, tritolyl- or tris-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate, cresyl phosphate, amino-phosphate compounds, metal-free organic phosphates, tert. butyl-phenyl phosphate, alkylated dithiocarbamates, methylene-bis-(dibutyldithiocarbamate), organic or other mono- or sulfides, dibenzyl mono- or disulfide and/or imidazolines; (c) antioxidant(s); (d) non-ferrous metal deactivators; and (e) wear reducing agent(s).
