The console (1) has a locking unit (4) for fixing the console on a support (2) fixedly connected to a floor pan of a motor vehicle, where the console is similar to a handbag. The unit has an operating handle (7) accessible at an upper part of the console and connected to a rod (8) extending vertically in the console. The rod has an end, opposite to the handle, comprising a finger (9) cooperating with the support. The finger is moved between a locked position, in which the finger is fixed with respect to the support, and an unlocked position, in which the console is removed.
