Non-alkaline pH depilatory composition deprived of thiol derivative, comprises a sulfite salt, a bisulfite salt and/or metabisulfite salt and a bisulfitic compound of an aldehyde or a ketone, in a medium. Independent claims are included for: (1) preparation of the composition comprising preparing an aqueous solution comprising a sulfite salt, a bisulfite salt and/or a metabisulfite salt, preparing an oil in water emulsion, subjecting the obtained mixture to a shearing at less than 50[deg] C and cooling to obtain a cream; or preparing a gel with a viscosifying agent compatible at pH 6, introducing the sulfite, bisulfite and/or metabisulfite compound and bisulfitic compound in the gel and subjecting the mixture to agitation under vacuum; and (2) depilation process comprising applying the depilatory composition on the skin and allowing the penetration of the composition in the skin.
