The device has a conveying roller (16) controlled by an operating mechanism (18) and traversing a mail article receiving plate (12) of a feeder (10) of a mail processing machine. The conveying roller has a polyoxymethylene cylindrical wheel comprising a straight tooth formed by a set of teeth. Small independent rollers having perpendicular axis are interposed between the teeth. The independent rollers are assembled on a rotational axle that is arranged in a plane perpendicular to a rotational axis of the wheel.
