Two meshing, toothed wheels (9, 10) carry pleated filter material in the slight gap between them. An Independent claim is included for the corresponding method of making the pleated filter with end faces. Preferred features: Teeth (11) of one wheel on the machine, are formed by a toothed belt (12) running around it. The belt carries the aligned filter material (3) to an end face construction station (6). Before reaching it, the belt gives over the material onto a conveyor screw beneath it . There are two adjacent toothed belts and/or conveying screws. Their spacing transverse to the conveying direction is adjustable for differing widths of material. Tooth spacing or screw pitch exceeds fold spacing of the completed filter. Further details of the transport mechanism are provided. Stabilizing strips are used to connect edges of folds in the filter material. The strip application mechanism is described. The filter material proceeds to a cutting station with a band saw.
