PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based ink composition for writing utensil having unpredictable and new properties that a handwriting formed on a writing face emits fragrance and a handwriting shows a color change with temperature change and emits fragrance in a different type from that in the initial stage, and to provide a writing utensil housing the composition, and a writing utensil set. PSOLUTION: The water-based ink composition for a writing utensil comprises at least a colorant that changes colors by heating, water, perfume, and microcapsules encapsulating perfume. A writing utensil is disclosed, which houses the water-based ink composition for a writing utensil.
