PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based ink composition, which allows visual check of color of ink inside, prevents deterioration in appearance due to discoloring or browning of stored ink, and can form good handwriting persistently, of high commercial value for writing utensils, a cartridge storing the water-based composition, and a writing utensil. PSOLUTION: The ink composition for writing utensils is stored in the ink cartridge and a utensil, through which color of the ink can be visually checked from the outside. The ink composition comprises water, a coloring agent, and folic acid. The ink cartridge storing the water-based ink composition for writing utensils and the writing utensil are also provided.
