PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a material for a gas diffusion electrode in which the micropore distribution of voids formed in a porous base material can be controlled, and both gas diffusion characteristics and drainage characteristics can keep the optimal balance. PSOLUTION: In a state that the porous base material 1 having water repellency and three-dimensionally continuous voids is expanded and drawn by a drawing means 4, a conductive material containing ink slurry 14 is coated and attached to the porous base material 1. By drawing the porous base material 1, micropore diameters of the voids formed inside are distributed in an expanding direction, and since the micropore diameters are expanded, the ink slurry 14 becomes easy to permeate into the voids. By this, the particle diameter distribution of the conductive material and the micropore diameter distribution of the voids of the porous base material become easy to be matched with each other.
