PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a weed growth restraining method and a weed growth restraining composition by which a coating film hardly affected by the water of an underlayer can be formed.;SOLUTION: The weed growth restraining method is to restrain growth of weeds in the underlayer by forming a coating film containing a polyurethane resin on the underlayer. The polyurethane resin is prepared by polymerizing a monomer containing a polyisocyanate and a polyol. The polyisocyanate is at least one kind selected from a group of chemical compounds of (A1) an MDI, (A2) a polymeric MDI, (A3) a carbodiimide modified MDI, (A4) a hydrogated MDI, and (A5) a dihydric or multiple alcohol prepared by modifying one of the (A1) to (A4).
