PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tunnel excavator capable of reducing cost of a cutter driving device and improving its precision in excavation work irrespective of increased size of the diameter of a gear for transmitting torque and reducing a construction term as much as possible.;SOLUTION: This tunnel excavator is constituted by supporting a cutter drum 12 of a cutter head 4 in a bearing housing 14 in a main part 1 of a soil pressure type shield machine through a triaxial roller bearing 13 rotatably to transmit rotation torque to the cutter head 4 by a gear mechanism in the cutter drum 12. The triaxial roller bearing 13 is separated from the gear 15 for transmitting rotation torque in the gear mechanism.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
