Method for the detection of the presence of a prion pathogen in a sample and control substitute for use in a test for detection of pru00econ. Reagents that interact preferentially with the peptidicos form PrPSc prion protein are described for use in the detection of PrPSc in biological samples. In particular, ELISA tests are described.
