A process of enhancing the electrochemical activity naturally occurring manganese dioxide by virtue of intentionally inserting traces of impurities (dopants) which includes molybdenum, bismuth,vanadium,titanium,alummimum into the crystal lattice having ionic size close similar to manganese ions at its solid diffusion temperature has been established. The resulttant dioxide developed by the said process shows better electrochemical activity in particular, heavy discharge rate compared to unprocessed manganese dioxide, for cell application.
